Solio Lodge

Set on the 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve, Solio Lodge is an intimate safari lodge in Laikipia in Kenya, located between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. The only lodge within this private conservancy, Solio Lodge offers wildlife viewing including herds of up to 40 rhinos, thanks to its successful rhino-breeding programme.

Accommodation is in five large thatched cottages, including one interconnected family unit. The contemporary cottages feature lofty ceilings, African artefacts, cosy living areas, and spacious en suites with freestanding tub and shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows lead to private verandas with panoramic views of Mount Kenya.

Food is of a high standard made from seasonal produce from the lodge’s gardens. It’s a treat to dine outside watching grazing wildlife under the stars.

Activities at Solio Lodge range from game drives and horseback safaris to guided walks, fishing in the Aberdare National Park, and scenic helicopter flights over Mount Kenya. Round off your day with an in-room spa treatment.

Location & Getting There

Nestled in a valley between Mount Kenya and Aberdare Mountains lies Solio Lodge within a private wildlife sanctuary, a 3-hour drive from Nairobi Airport.

Accommodations

The intimate property has 5 large thatched cottages that are each individually decorated, offering large windows with views of the incredible landscape of rolling hills and Mount Kenya. Each room features a private lounge with open fire to warm the house for cooler evenings, as well as large ensuite bathrooms and a private veranda where guests can enjoy stunning views.

Activities

Game viewing is the highlight, where there is countless wildlife to observe in the Solio Game Reserve. These include black and white rhinoceros, leopard, lion, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, warthog and many more. Other activities to make the most of the outdoors are horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing trips, visits to rose farms and local markets. For a unique experience, a helicopter ride to Mount Kenya followed by a hilltop picnic breakfast is a must.

Children

Children are welcome though there are no specific facilities. Babysitting can be arranged with prior notice.
