Kaya Mawa

Malawi's Kaya Mawa is a romantic hideaway lodge on Likoma Island, Lake Malawi, in Africa.

There are eleven rooms, spread out around two beaches and a rocky knoll, all offering spectacular views over the lake with understated simple yet elegant designs. Rooms feature en suite bathrooms, private terraces, direct access to the waters of Lake Malawi or their own private plunge pools. Families will also find a special place here, with fantastic facilities for activities and various family room options.

The private house - part of Kaya Mawa called Nodomo House - is the ultimate in exclusivity and is located approximately one kilometre away from the main lodge. Four bedrooms, three en suites, a sitting room, family kitchen, five terraces, study, pool, private beach, and full use of Kaya Mawa facilities make this the perfect option for families.

The bar and restaurant at Kaya Mawa are just metres from the water's edge. If you feel like a change of scene from the restaurant there are many private areas for dinners to be served – on a beach, deck, platform or under a gazebo.

Location & Getting There

Kaya Mawa is an utterly romantic hideaway lodge in Malawi, Africa. It's a 50-minute flight from Lilongwe to Likoma Island, followed by a 15-minute road transfer to the lodge.

Accommodation

There are 11 rooms and 1 private house, spread out around two beaches and a rocky knoll, all offering spectacular views over the lake. Each room features ensuite bathrooms, private terraces, direct access to the glistening waters of Lake Malawi or a private plunge pool. The Ndomo House boasts extra amenities, such as access to the private beach, four bedrooms, study, terraces, kitchen, a large living area and infinity pool.

Activities

Walking or biking around the island is a must, where guests can chat with friendly locals, visit the cathedral, local school and the lively market nearby. Kaya Maya is recognised as one of the best fresh water diving in the world. Three boats are also available for wakeboarding, water-skiing and kneeboarding. Kayaking, windsurfing, swimming, snorkelling and sailing are also a superb way to get out on the lake.

Children

Children are most welcome at Kaya Mawa. Family cottages are available and babysitting can be arranged.
