Beijing Yihe Hotel

Beijing & Northern China

Formerly known as Aman Summer Palace, this property now operates independently as Beijing Yihe Hotel, while retaining the architectural integrity and serene atmosphere for which it has long been recognised. Set beside the East Gate of the UNESCO-listed Summer Palace, Beijing Yihe Hotel offers the rare opportunity to stay within a restored Qing-dynasty retreat. A series of heritage courtyards and timber halls feel quietly removed from the pace of the capital, while direct access to the palace grounds invites unhurried early-morning and late-afternoon wanderings. The boutique layout and private-residence atmosphere are enriched by thoughtful details and a strong sense of history throughout. It’s a distinctive, culturally immersive base for a luxury holiday in China, at the doorstep of one of Beijing’s most iconic landmarks.

Accommodation

The property has 51 guestrooms and suites arranged around traditional courtyards, each with high ceilings, timber beams and Ming-style furnishings. Suites add generous living areas, while the Imperial Suite spans three private pavilions with its own courtyard and spa room. Throughout, the design balances historic character with contemporary comfort.

Food & drink

Three restaurants present Cantonese and Imperial Chinese cuisine, French-Japanese fusion and Western grill dishes. A traditional teahouse offers a more informal setting, alongside a refined bar for evening drinks. Dining spaces echo the heritage architecture of the courtyards.

Activities

Direct access to the Summer Palace allows for unhurried exploration at quieter times of day. The Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and other UNESCO sites are easily reached from the hotel, while the Great Wall can be visited on a day excursion.

Children

Children are welcome at the Beijing Summer Palace; however, there are no dedicated facilities.

Best time to go

Beijing is best visited in spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), when temperatures are mild, and skies are clear. Autumn also brings colourful foliage across the palace grounds.

How to get there

Located beside the East Gate of the Summer Palace in Beijing, the hotel is approximately a 40-minute drive from Beijing Capital International Airport.

Why we recommend Beijing Yihe Hotel

Located away from the hustle and bustle of Beijing’s city centre,  Beijing Yihe Hotel is a quiet, hidden retreat. Walking through its courtyards feels like stepping back in time in terms of design, décor and atmosphere. The highlight of any stay is access to the Summer Palace itself, particularly as guests can enter via the hotel’s private gate, allowing exploration outside standard visiting hours. Wandering through the gardens and lakes without the usual daytime crowds is a rare privilege and one of Beijing’s most memorable experiences.
